Of course, football skills are important, but being fast and having great speed over the first couple of yards is everything as professional players have great, explosive acceleration.

KEYPOINTS

- To get you going more grunt is going to mean more speed.

-  Your body needs to be able to produce more force quickly.

- Acceleration strides need to be longer and much more aggressive than strides you will be taking at top speed.

STREGTH

Intercepting a pass takes the ability to anticipate, read the play and keep the receiving player guessing. All of that takes time and practice to learn, and takes careful thought to apply in a game situation. 

Put simply, it's the knack of knowing where to be, when to move and sensing what is going to happen before it actually does.

- Keep distance between yourself and the other player.

-Use your body to make sure the attacker can’t get the pass before you.

- Use your arm to shield the opposing player.

POWER

Vertical jumping ability is a good test of power. Get bigger hops and up your competition.

- Express yourself with freedom.

- Trust yourself and work hard to learn new skills.

- Know what to do before you receive the ball.

ENDURANCE

Having courage will give your team the competitive edge; your players need to show courage to take responsibility for their team role and their behaviour. If they have the courage to not be afraid on and off the pitch, sticking up against what's wrong, as well as maintaining a positive attitude.

- Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

- Match fit is different than being in shape

- Always do the right thing.

Practice staying in control of your body movement and coordination.

- Communication is important.

- Be passionate about the game.

- Keep all players united towards a set target
